How to Dispute Errors on Your Credit Report

Studies suggest that a significant share of credit reports contain errors — and any one of them could be costing you points and money. Disputing inaccuracies is your legal right, and it’s often one of the quickest ways to restore your credit.
Identify the error and gather documentation
Common errors include accounts that aren’t yours, incorrect balances, duplicate listings, and outdated negative marks. Collect statements, letters, and any proof that supports your case before you file.
File your dispute with the bureaus
Submit disputes to each bureau reporting the error, in writing or online, and include your documentation. The bureau generally has 30 days to investigate and respond. If the information can’t be verified, it must be corrected or removed.
Follow up and escalate when needed
If a dispute is denied unfairly, you can add a statement to your file or escalate the issue. This is where professional help pays off — Credit Cure manages the entire restoration process so errors get resolved correctly the first time.
